Foursquare checkins not showing up on Facebook is a fairly common problem. According to Foursquare, the issues are typically caused by a temporary glitch in their Facebook connection. If you’re consistently having trouble, however, there are a few steps you can try to re-enable them. These steps have worked for many people, but they haven’t fixed the problem for everyone.

1. Make sure you’re choosing to share with Facebook. This may seem obvious, but many people miss this key step. You must choose to share the checkin with Facebook from within your mobile app at the time of checkin. You can change the default setting from your Foursquare Settings page. (The iPhone app is shown at right)
2. Try unlinking and relinking your Facebook account. Visit Foursquare’s Facebook connect page and unlink your account from Facebook. Log out of Facebook completely and then relink the accounts from the same page. This fixes the problem in many cases, especially if you’ve recently changed your Facebook password.
3. Know the limits. Foursquare is only allowed to publish 10 updates to Facebook in any 48 hour period. If you’ve exceeded that limit, your checkins will not be shown on Facebook until you’re out of those 48 hours.
4. There’s a possible bug with non-Roman characters. This has not been confirmed, but there are reports that a bug (either on the Foursquare side or the Facebook side) prevents Facebook from displaying any checkins that include non-Roman characters, such as accents, umlauts or Chinese characters, in either the user’s name or the venue’s name.

If these steps fail, there’s not much else you can do to get your Foursquare checkins showing on Facebook. Unfortunately, you may have to wait until either Facebook or Foursquare fixes the integration.
