What parts of my Foursquare profile are visible to the public?
Your Foursquare profile page is always publicly accessible, but the information that is visible depends on who is looking at it. It breaks down into two groups, what the public can see and what you and your friends can see. Here’s what each group can see:
Public
- Profile Picture
- First name and last initial
- Last known city
- Facebook/Twitter profiles (if they’re linked and enabled in your Settings)
- Number of nights out, checkins, etc.
- Tips/To-Do
- Badges
- Mayorships (Update 6/18): These are no longer visible to the public
- Friends
Your badges are a less obvious way for people to see where you’ve been since each one lists the venue where it was earned. If a badge gives away more information than you’d like, you can remove the badge from your profile by deleting the checkin where it was earned from your history.
If a mayorship gives away more information than you’re willing to share publicly, you can remove it from your profile by clicking the “X” next to its name in your mayorship list.
If your Twitter account is linked to your profile it will always be available — whether you’ve enabled it in your settings or not — since your profile URL is determined by your Twitter username.
Friends
Friends can see all of the above, plus:
- Your last name
- Your feed, showing the last 10 places you’ve checked in
- Your phone number/email address in the mobile apps (if they’re enabled in your Settings)
There is no way to prevent your friends from seeing your feed, so only add someone as a friend if you trust them enough to have that information.
