Visit New York Comic Con for your Graphic.ly badge
The New York Comic Con is taking over the Jacob Javits Convention Center October 8–10 and Graphic.ly and foursquare have partnered to offer attendees a Graphic.ly badge. Check in to two places they’ve recommended to earn the badge.
You’ll be able to show your badge at the Graphic.ly booth for a free Comic download and t-shirt. You’ll also be entered in the grand prize contest featuring signed swag from your favorite comic book authors.
By following Graphic.ly on foursquare you can unlock the tips they’ve left around New York at comic stores, important places in comic book history and places featured in some of your favorite comics, like this one at the Brooklyn Bridge:
In Amazing Spider-Man #121, Gwen Stacy, Spider-Man’s girlfriend, was thrown off a bridge by the Green Goblin. Even though the artist drew the Brooklyn Bridge, the story said it was the GW Bridge.
The badge will continue to be available after Comic Con at the places they’ve left tips. They’re also planning to add tips in more cities as time goes on.
Graphic.ly sells digital editions of comics that can be read on the desktop through an Adobe Air app or on iPads or iPhones with the Graphic.ly app. Versions for Android, Windows Mobile 7 and the web are in the works.
Foursquare previously offered a Super Man badge for San Diego’s Comic Con International in July. That badge was sponsored by Warner Brothers, who offered a free gift to badge holders in their booth.
Are you planning to attend Comic Con? What do you think of the new badge?

Thanks, Graphic.ly, for only letting users in New York City earn your badge. After all, it’s impossible that there are any great comic book stores in any other cities…right?
(Not So) Sincerely,
All the Other Foursquare Users
I believe they got these first tips up to beat the deadline for New York Comic Con. They say they’ll be adding more tips in the future.

I actually pointed out Graphi.ly’s profile to my brother (who is going to New York Comic Con) a couple of days before the badge was announced, and suggested he follow it, but he refused.
Which brings up a funny problem I’ve encountered with most of my “casual Foursquare user” friends: they don’t want to friend corporate accounts because they think strangers will know where they’re checking in. This notion feels like it could be a problem for Foursquare down the road, if it turns out that the only people following companies are gamers.
We just had a Comic Con in New Orleans last weekend. Where was our badge???
Seriously Foursquare. If you want your users to grow, you need to include cities other than New York & L.A.
