Untappd launches a major partnership with Samuel Adams
Foursquare was one of the first platforms to demonstrate the viability of using purely digital goodies (read: badges) to encourage their users to perform certain actions — and partnering with other companies to pay for them. Yesterday Untappd — a mobile beer-sharing app that makes heavy use of foursquare’s platform for location information — made their first moves down that road with a new partnership with Samuel Adams to offer a badge for users who try their new Infinium beer that launches tomorrow.
The “To Infinium and Beyond” badge celebrates a beer that’s been in development for the last two years. It’s a collaboration between Samuel Adams and Germany’s Weihenstephan Brewery, the world’s oldest brewery. It’s said to be the first new beer developed under the German beer purity law that calls for beers to be made from only four ingredients: malt, hops, yeast and water. Infinium is only available this month and is being sold in 750mL bottles, much like champagne, which it’s said to bear a resemblance to.
“The flavor idiom would be sort of in between a champagne, a dessert wine, and maybe a Sam Adams Noble Pils,” Boston Beer Company founder Jim Koch told the Boston Globe. “You get some of the body and mouthfeel of a beer, some of the hop character of a beer, but it’s very dry and acidic without being thin. And then it has some of the fruitiness — pear, apple, peach, apricot notes — of a dessert wine.”
Congratulations to our friends at Untappd on this partnership to help launch an innovative new beer!
