Tri Delta and Sigma Lambda Beta join the Greek organization badge ranks

In addition to the Delta Upsilon badge launched earlier today, two other Greek organization badges have been announced: Delta Delta Delta (Tri Delta) and Sigma Lambda Beta.

The “True to Tri Delta” badge represents the first badge awarded to a “national fraternity for women” (aka, a sorority). It can be unlocked by following the fraternity and checking in three times at any of their chapter houses.

Sigma Lambda Beta is historically a Latino-based fraternity. Their badge can be unlocked similarly at their chapter houses, or at their national convention, BetaCon, which begins on Thursday in Tampa, FL. Featuring a clip-art horse, it could be the worst-looking badge foursquare has ever released (assuming the image on their Facebook page is the final artwork).

Both badges have yet to be unlocked.

    Actually it looks like that “clipart horse” is their logo/mascot, therefore making it truly the badge for that organization…. just sayin…

    The organization has alot of value and great people in it… however, that is defnitely the worst badge ever. The letters and their year of inception in some type of design would have been 1000xs better; by far the most embarrassing badge released.

    All I can think of is “My Little Pony”
    And Im sure that is like the biggest insult to a greek organization ever.. but I mean.. comon.. look at it.. And when you look at how nicely done and effort was put into the Delta Upsilon badge.. this “My Little Pony” badge is just funny.
    Sorry to all the Sigma Lambda Beta’s out there.. but Im thinking the lines at you keg parties just got a little shorter..

      The first draft of the post included a My Little Pony reference, but I decided to be nice :)

      And shouldn’t the letters be Greek?

    I think its a combination of “all of the above” that makes this badge hard to take seriously.

    Youd think that someone over at 4sq would say.. “Hey, we’re glad Sigma Lambda Beta is jumping on board, and we really like your badge idea but…. (insert constructive / creative criticisms here)

    And I also dont like to say such hash things about a badge that’s suppose to represent something that backs so much tradition and honor, but this may be the worst looking badge 4sq has ever released.. and Im sure that the design department was not happy about it.. but seeing as how it is technically a partner badge.. they probably also did not have much say in the end result.

    As a member of Sigma Lambda Beta and foursquare SU2, I have to agree the badge design is not my favorite. 5square, it’s funny that you mention “My Little Pony” because many in my org refer to this stallion design as that. Unfortunately our old mascot design was actually much nicer, but also much more clip-art and thus not copyrightable. As for why we didn’t actually use the Greek letters instead of the Latin alphabet SLB, it’s the same reason our much cooler looking shield wasn’t used (It also contains our Greek letters) it’s because historically Latino and African American fraternities don’t allow non-members from wearing our letters which we earned. You definitely won’t see our girlfriends in our shirts or hoodies or letterman jackets. And seeing as how anyone can get this badge and there will probably be 10x more people in Singapore with this badge as brothers, they decided not to use our Greek letters. I’m sure you’ll notice more of the same as other Latino Greeks and Divine 9 get badges. As for “My Little Pony”, let’s hope he gets put out to pasture soon and we get a fresh design that looks much better.
