Swimmies badge makes a comeback

Swimmies BadgeThe Swimmies badge, once a limited-time SXSW badge, has made a comeback. New unlocks started appearing today with new text that suggests you can earn the badge with five checkins “near the water:”

Hey now! That’s your 5th check-in near the water. Let’s hope this isn’t followed-up by unlocking our “Unlucky Shark Attack” badge.

It looks like this badge will be available worldwide, so it should be a fun one for everyone to try to unlock.

Doesn’t this seem dumb to unlock after the majority of the summer has already passed?

I was kind of thinking the same thing. But a badge is a badge, there’s still plenty of warm weather left in most parts of the country.

It doesn’t seem that dumb if there are lakes of sorts in tropical countries…:D

earned it when I checked into the beach yesterday. Note – all 4 of my previous beach check-ins were prior to this badge being out so for those that thought they missed this badge opp, if you went to the beach a lot this summer hit it once more. In the 90s in NY still :)

I got this badge yesterday when I checked into a place near the lake in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Yes, this badge is truly available worldwide! We really need more badges that can be unlocked outside the US :)
    Thank you for the info!

I’ve earned this bedge about 2 weeks ago while i was at the beach here in brazil.
But, i didn’t really earn this bedge… it had shown up on my twitter but when i go to my bedges in the 4square app, this bedge is not visible… so i’ve earnd only the message, not the bedge.

I unlocked this today after checking into my lakeside walking trail! Guess you don’t actually have to get in the water. haha

I was near the water a few times lately, and I have checked in at businesses at the beach, etc., but it does not appear that I received the badge. Do the venues have to be tagged or categorized in some special way? I would like to get this badge soon (and plan to be at the beach either this weekend or next)!

It’s not really so much being “near” the water. Checkins need to be venues in the beach, surf spot or lake/pond categories.

Hrm, I ride my motorcycle up and down the coast a lot on weekends, of course I rarely stop to check-in.

The other day I checked in from a pier where I had stopped. And I will usually check in at beach-side restaurants but I’m guessing neither counts.

Doesn’t it seem dumb that summer is just starting on the other side of the world…

So far I’ve checked in four times at three different beaches, no badge yet.
