Foursquare a major part of this year’s Sony Ericsson Open
Sony Ericsson — a sponsor of three different badges on foursquare — is bringing their love of foursquare together with their love of tennis at this year’s Sony Ericsson Open. Foursquare users will be able to unlock special deals and opportunities throughout the tournament. The event began yesterday in Miami.
Users with the Xperia Tennis Fan badge — earned by following Sony Ericsson WTA and checking in at their Tennis Hotspot venue — will receive a 20% discount on tickets to select matches. They could also win the opportunity to participate in post match press conferences and player autograph sessions.
The foursquare Mayor of each court will have the opportunity to participate in a pre-match coin toss.
“The partnership with foursquare is a great way to reward tennis fans and engage with people through their smartphones,” says Stephan Croix, VP Head of Global Marketing Partnerships for Sony Ericsson. We think this is a fantastic way to build on the success of the Sony Ericsson Open and continue to find ways to improve the experience for tennis fans.”

Woohoo, I’m here and I got my badge
Think this will carry on to other cities, like the huge tennis tourney in Cincinnati?
I doubt it will carry on in this capacity to other cities, since Sony Ericsson is only the title sponsor in Miami. I do expect, though, that we’ll be able to unlock the tennis fan badge here, and that’s good enough for me
Sony Ericsson WTA on foursquare will be active at all WTA tournaments this year. There will be check-in points and you can unlock badges at each event.
