Seattle Seahawks become fourth NFL team with a foursquare badge

20121014-152456.jpgThe Seattle Seahawks this afternoon became the fourth NFL team to honor their fans with a foursquare badge.

To unlock the badge, fans must follow the Seahawks on foursquare, then check in at their stadium on game days. Presumably the badge will allow users to “level up” as they check in at subsequent games, as the other NFL badges do.

The unlock text reads:

Bigger, Faster, Stronger, Louder! Thanks for creating the best home field advantage in the league. SEA – HAWKS!

The Seahawks join the Redskins, Panthers and Texans as the only teams with their own badges.

    I think this is great.. but one does wonder what prompts certain teams and not others to jump on this bandwagon. I mean with the NFL being pretty uniform, youd think if 1 team does it, why wouldnt all the teams do it?

    I know Id love to see the Bears do it.. and I know you would love to see either the Browns or the Bengals do it (youve never really declared what Ohio team you root for)..

    Is this something we should expect to see more of? Or something we shouldnt hold or breath on?

      How dare you insult me by even implying I might possibly be a Browns fan?!?!?! :)

      It’s pretty surprising to me, too. The Panthers, Texans and Redskins all made sense when they launched because the teams had been active on foursquare for quite some time. The Seahawks, on the other hand, only started their foursquare page last week.

      I imagine that this is being led by the league at some level and the teams are just slowly coming around to doing their part to get it going. Perhaps eventually they’ll all be involved (one can only hope!).

        Hey.. I know there is some Browns fans in Cinci.. People transplant all the time.. And some like to root for the underdog.

        Youve never declared it.. So I couldnt just assume!

        And I hope all the teams start jumping on board!
        I think team badges are a very cool way to show your loyality.. especially if you are a fan of a team from somewhere other then where you live and you travel to see them.. (i,e, if you were a Brown fan and you made the trip a couple times a season to watch them play up in Cleveland or just one a year across the country because the team you love is much further away) Its probably one of the cooler souvenirs you can get as an avid 4sq user!

    As one who bleeds burgundy and gold, I’m uber-proud the Redskins were the FIRST team to sport a badge. While a lot that the NFL is pretty uniform, community outreach and local engagement varies from team to team.

    Some of the more popular Redskins were early adopters to social technology, tweeting, checking-in, fanning-then-liking, etc. I wasn’t surprised when they were the first to jump into the badge foray.

    The Seahawks & Sounders share the same social media department & the Sounders were one of the first MLS teams to get a badge. Additionally, they are awesome 4sqday sponsors here in Seattle.
