Restaurant offers the ultimate mayor special: a free cruise for two
Starbucks’ dollar-off-a-frappucino mayor offer doesn’t have anything on the special being offered by The Philadephian in Bradenton, FL. Foursquare user Rob Kehs recently became the first mayor of the store and collected his prize: a free cruise for two.
Owner Charlie McCullough has issued an additional challenge to anyone who can unseat Rob as mayor and hold the title for 30 consecutive days; that user will get a free cruise for two as well.
In addition to the cruise, Kehs — or whoever takes his place — gets their choice of two free items a week in the store. They can choose from a 16″ pizza, a sandwich or eight wings.
McCullough tells us he was looking to up the ante in the Foursquare game and encourage users to adopt it in the Bradenton area, where few people are active on Foursquare. He publicized the offer on the restaurant’s Facebook page.

HOLY SHIT!
Considering the one place anywhere near me offering a special is just for a free small coffee (no, not even Starbucks)… it would be nice if we had something like this! I’d even be happy with a special from Dominos… but we don’t have one of those anymore either.

Dang, all foursquare mayor specials suck now compared to this one! http://bit.ly/cLM380
How many people are going to drive-by and check-in now though… but it’s still awesome if they owner can validate seeing the winners in his place often.
His wife must be a travel agent

With only 12 check ins, that’s got to be the most handily won cruise ever.
You also have to ask yourself, for such an outlay in promotional dollars, is it possible this business owner is missing the boat on building equity in his website/brand by promoting his FourSquare page.
I’m not sure how much this cruise cost, but at 12 check ins, that’s a lot of money/check in.
He’s got the right idea for creating buzz, but is poorly executing it.

I think more places should offer discounts just for checking in. It would definitely make the app for popular along with providing valuable market research.

More places should definitely start doing this…
I think this is rather odd as the winner rob kehs is in other businesses together with the Charlie Mccullugh, owner of the philladelphian.
ps- I can proove it.
