RadioShack tests the foursquare waters

RadioShack is now offering a 10% discount to foursquare users just for checking inWhile Best Buy tries out Shopkick, competitor RadioShack is trying to drive traffic with a location-based reward system that doesn’t require the installation of any expensive hardware. Starting today, foursquare users who check in at RadioShack will receive a 10% discount; mayors will unlock a 20% discount. The promotion runs through September 8.

RadioShack stores are ubiquitous in suburban malls and shopping centers, so this special is sure to pop up as “nearby” for plenty of foursquare users. Offering a discount — however small — just for checking in will likely drive some extra traffic to their stores.

Search for RadioShack (no space) to find stores offering the discount in your area.

One thing I’m starting to like on the Foursquare website is if you search, you can see where specials are offered right on the results page.

Makes it easier to see which ones might be screwed up from the import… haha… I kid… sort of. :)

I don’t think the promotion is running long enough. I think for a social media special to be effective it should run for longer than a month.

However, it is awesome to see more businesses using foursquare. Now to find a reason to go to radio shack.

    So this all went well…

The import a ton of locations. All of the addresses are in CAPS and many pins are incorrect because of it. Many are dupes and then merged into existing venues. Said merges lose specials to a “bug.”

Now they have to be fixed… How is it that merges seem to go so poorly here?
