Nokia launches viral video for their Lumia 800 comparing foursquare check-in speed

Nokia, longtime supporters of foursquare, have just posted a new viral video in their Nokia Lumia Challenge series. This one focuses on the Lumia’s speed, comparing the time it takes to check in between a Blackberry and the Lumia 800. The Lumia 800 (running the official foursquare Windows Phone app) has a distinct advantage thanks to a Venue Tile pinned to the home screen and the quick check-in button, so it’s obviously the winner, drawing some fun foursquare related comments from the magician/host.

It’s not all bad news for the losers, though. They walk away with new Lumia 800s.

    Pretty BS test, it’s all about how efficient the app is,even on the same platform there can be a big difference in check-in speed.

    On Android In the before time when the official 4sq app could be set to automatically start up on the places tab it was pretty quick to check in.

    Then they changed the app to make you click on the “check in” button to even see the list of venues nearby. Adding an extra step and increasing the time to check in by 2-3 seconds.

    Most recently they took away the ability to long-press the venue to go straight to the check-in dialog adding yet another ~5 seconds (depending on network speed) to the process.

    Thank goodness for simple check-in, that app has truly revolutionized my every day checkins.

      I agree that it’s not really a fair test at all, especially since he had the venue tile set up already. I posted more for the fact that it was a fun foursquare-related video than for the truth-in-advertising aspect of it :)
