Nokia and 1000 Heads launch foursquare-enabled “Gift” machine
To help celebrate Social Media Week, Nokia and word-of-mouth marketing agency 1000 Heads have partnered to build a unique vending machine that’s activated by foursquare checkins. It dispenses free American candy bars, Nokia accessories and even a few Nokia phones.
The Nokia Gift Machine sits inside the Glasgow site of Social Media Week, a worldwide event. It’s been stocked with more than 1,000 gifts to reward guests all week long. All users have to do to collect a prize is check in at the machine’s foursquare venue.
“The Nokia Gift Machine @ SMW is a fantastic example of our commitment and support to our global partnerships,” said Craig Hepburn, Global Director of Digital & Social at Nokia. “Incorporating Foursquare into this Social Media Week activity in this way, not only builds on our ‘random acts of kindness’ theme from earlier this year but also demonstrates how online activity can deliver true results and rewards offline – a thought Nokia has been ahead of the game with for some time.â€
Foursquare’s API has been used before to activate vending machines, but never before in random fashion where the user has no idea what they could win. GranataPet used foursquare checkins at billboards to dispense dog food and Showtime used them to dispense baseballs.
