NASA’s Mars Rover badge lands on Foursquare
The official Foursquare Mayor of Mars is now the star of a badge honoring users doing their own exploration (of science-related places) here on Earth.
When the Mars rover, Curiosity, became the first Foursquare user to check in on another planet back in October, NASA promised a new badge to celebrate and today they’ve delivered.
Users can unlock the badge by following NASA and checking in at places that “generate an interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.” Most of places correspond to venues where NASA has left tips.
The unlock text reads:
Get out your rock-vaporizing laser! You’ve explored your scientific curiosities just like NASA’s Curiosity rover on Mars. Stay curious and keep exploring. You never know what you’ll find.
This is NASA’s second badge. The NASA Explorer badge first launched when Col. Douglas Wheelock checked in from the International Space Station and then became available to earthbound users upon his return to the ground. It was retired earlier this year.
