With gas approaching an average of $4 per gallon across the US (and much higher than that in some places), every little bit we can do to cut costs helps. That’s why this could be my favorite nationwide foursquare special ever. Murphy USA gas stations are currently offering $2 off any gas purchase of $20 or more and a free pack of Stride Winterblue gum for any foursquare checkin.

Murphy USA isn’t really a household name. That’s because most of us associate their stations with Walmart stores, where almost all of them are found. They have more than 1,000 locations across the US, with the exception of the West Coast.

You can search for Murphy USA on foursquare to find the nearest station or you can use their handy iPhone app or Android app (it’s free). It even lists the current price for a gallon of gas, nearby competitor prices and any special services the station offers.

What’s the best part? Their app can check you in on foursquare. Simply tap the foursquare icon to authorize your account and you’re checked in automatically.

Like I said, a discount on way-too-high gas prices is very welcome right now. A useful app that checks me in on foursquare is even better.
