Fight your foursquare friends with Mayor War
Have you ever had the urge to just blow up a foursquare venue — especially one where your friend is the mayor? You’ll get your chance — virtually, at least — with Mayor War, a new app that launched in the iPhone app store Monday. In Mayor War you build an army of your friends and attack venues with your choice of weapons.
You choose a “home base” at one of the locations where you’re mayor. Pick wisely, because if you lose the mayorship you’ll also lose any points you’ve accumulated there in Mayor War (unless you regain the mayorship within a month). If you’re not a mayor, you can pick a temporary venue to make your home base.
Choose a venue to attack from a list of nearby places or where your friends hold mayorships. If your attack is successful, you’ll rack up gold and experience points.
The gold will help you buy more weapons, all with varying ranges of accuracy, range and damage. Gain enough experience points and you’ll “level up,” which unlocks new weapons, like arrows, cow dung, tennis shoes, and, presumably at the highest levels, the Gatling gun-wielding sheep shown on the game’s splash screen.
Each attack costs “attack points” and will earn a counterattack. If your home base is destroyed in an attack or a counterattack it will be out of commission until it’s had time to build its defenses back up. Attack points re-accumulate over time and you get a limited amount of gold for each day you play.
Overall, I found the gameplay to be pretty enjoyable. I haven’t been willing to bombard my Twitter followers with Mafia Wars-style requests, so I haven’t tested out the army features, but they look interesting and will provide a boost to your gold and attack points.
Mayor War is free in the iPhone app store. Give it a try and let us know what you think in the comments.
