Lawson convenience stores launch a foursquare badge
If you live in the mainland US, you’ve probably never heard of Lawson convenience stores, despite the fact the chain started in Ohio. Their US branches were bought out years ago (most are now Circle K stores), but the name lives on in China, Indonesia, Hawaii and Japan, where it remains one of the most popular convenience store chains.
Foursquare users who are regular customers now have the opportunity to unlock a special badge to show their allegiance thanks to a new partnership between Lawson and foursquare. Users who check in three times to Lawson stores will unlock the Lawson badge.
The unlock text reads:
Congratulations, now you have the badge to show you love time convenience like a true Lawson visitor! Keep exploring over 10,000 Lawson convenience store locations on foursquare in Japan, Hawaii, China and Indonesia.
Depending on where it’s unlocked, the unlock text can also appear in Japanese, Chinese or Indonesian.
Foursquare is incredibly popular in Japan, Indonesia and Southeast Asia, so it makes sense for Asian brands to make the monetary commitment for a foursquare badge. It’s also likely there are in-store promotions that will help to grow foursquare’s penetration in those markets, which could have offset some of the cost of the badge.
What do you think of the badge?
