For the past few weeks, IFC, the Independent Film Channel, has been asking foursquare users to submit their favorite quirky locations around the country for inclusion in their Always On, Slightly Off Guide to America. They’ve now launched that guide via foursquare tips — and users who check in to three of their recommended locations can earn IFC’s Slightly Off badge.

The Always On, Slightly Off Guide to America aims to be a collection of some of the strangest places in America, like a “sushi spot with monkey waiters in tutus.” None of the recommended venues appear to be quite that strange, but many are at least a little off-the wall, like Voodoo Doughnut in Portland, Oregon, where they’ve said:

This PDX favorite serves up doughnuts with names like “Dirt” and “Cock-n-Balls” (double cream filled) as well as a bacon-topped doughnut and several vegan specialties.

IFC has been taking user suggestions through their website, where they also promised to gather “recommendations from the likes of Thu Tran, Sam Mason, the Whitest Kids U Know, the IFC Staff” and viewers. It appears that all of the tips currently come from the IFC staff, but hopefully they’ll begin populating it with more information soon.
