Hit 1000 miles on Fitbit, unlock a foursquare badge

If you follow any of the foursquare staff on Twitter, you’ve likely noticed that they love their Fitbits. Today they’ve partnered with Fitbit to launch a badge for users who log 1,000 miles using their device: Fitbit 1k Lifetime Miles.

Fitbit is a device that you wear on your belt that automatically measures your fitness and sleep habits. It connects with an online account (that connects with foursquare) that lets you view statistics and graphs of your activity.

The unlock text reads:

Whoa! You’ve travelled 1,000 miles with your Fitbit. That’s like walking from Miami to NYC.

The badge is reminiscent of those offered by Runkeeper and HealthMonth to reward healthy activities in ways that wouldn’t be possible with traditional “place” checkins. Those badges have been very popular among the foursquare community, so it stands to reason that Fitbit’s will be as well.

UPDATE: A second Fitbit badge appeared a short time ago: Fitbit 20K Step Day, which rewards users who take more than 20,000 steps in a single day. The unlock text reads:

20,000 steps in 1 day! Way to be an overachiever – that’s twice the daily recommended amount.

    This might push me over the edge to finally get a FitBit… I was really waiting to see what Jawbone’s Up would be like, but that probably won’t get me a badge. :)

      I was stuck on the exact same decision. Foursquare badges are as good a tiebreaker as anything else!

    Great an other “You Have to Buy Me badge” to go along with Health Week and GoGo mile high. I know 4S has to make money, but if they are gonna pass it off in us, I will pass it by.

      If you already have (or were considering) a FitBit, these are badges for you… If you don’t have one and don’t need one, it’s not a badge for you. Big deal. No one is forcing you to go spend $100 to get a couple badges.

      With that said, no one is going to “pass it off” to you either. You’re either going to use foursquare or you’re not. And if the availability of 2 new badges makes you NOT want to use it, that’s your problem, not theirs.

      There have been 5 other badges announced just this month. Not to mention the 8 released in July (plus all of the university badges!), if that’s not enough to keep you busy or interested, I’m not sure there’s much more they can do for you anyway.

    So I have a FitBit, and I’m on 4SQ… but I cannot find wherehow to link my FitBit to my 4SQ account??? I’ve linked it to Facebook but can’t find anything on FitBit’s site about 4SQ. Help please!
