VisitPA’s Groundhog Day Badge returns for 2013 with new Slinky partnership
One of Foursquare’s most popular partner badges is returning in 2013: the VisitPA Groundhog Day badge. Once again, it will be available to Groundhog Day revelers worldwide. This year they’ve even added a partnership with Pennsylvania-born Slinky for an exclusive giveaway for visitors at the official Gobblers Knob event.
“We are thrilled to enhance the ever-popular Groundhog Day Foursquare partnership this year with one of Pennsylvania’s, if not the country’s, favorite toys,” said First Lady Susan Corbett at today’s announcement of the badge.
To earn the badge, all you’ll have to do is follow VisitPA and check in anywhere in the world, being sure to include the word “groundhog” in your check-in. The badge will only be active on February 2 — Pennsylvania time, of course.
In addition to earning the badge, Foursquare users who check in to the official event at Gobblers Knob will be able to show their check-in to redeem a Slinky in a customized Groundhog Day box. Slinky Master Tom James, the son of the toy’s inventor, will be on hand to sign the boxes. Users who collect their Slinky will be entered to win the “Ultimate Pennsylvania Great Outdoors Getaway” prize pack, which includes a stay at the Gateway Lodge Country Inn, a meal at the Allegheny Grille and other Pennsylvania prizes.
This is VisitPA’s third year sponsoring the Groundhog Day badge. They’ve also sponsored four other badges over the course of their partnership with Foursquare.
Groundhog Day occurs on February 2 each year. As the story goes, if Punxsutawney Phil sees he’s shadow, we’ll have six more weeks of Winter; if not, we’re in for an early Spring.
