Foursquare has brought back their “Trending Now” feature to help make it easier to find popular venues nearby. Venues where there are already multiple checkins will now float to the top of your list of nearby places.

At most major airports, you’ll find venues for the main airport, the terminals, concourses, gates, restaurants and even flights. The main airport venue is almost always crowded out of the search results by all these subvenues. Trending Now should make the main venue easier to find in all the clutter. It will also help in places like stadiums and shopping malls where the main venue gets crowded out of the results.

This is a good stop-gap measure until Foursquare upgrades their search to make it more robust and less cluttered with duplicates and subvenues.
