Foursquare takes on Comic-Con with a Superman badge

Comic-Con 2010 badgeComic-Con is obviously a very popular event among foursquare’s geek-heavy user population. Last night’s Comic-Con preview unlocked the Super Swarm badge (more than 250 users checked in at once) and today when users checked in, they received a special surprise: a Comic-Con 2010 badge. The unlock text reads:

Welcome to Metropolis, errr San Diego. You’ve just scored the Superman badge! Now show this at the WB booth to pick up some free swag, while supplies last. (Hint: stay away from the Kryptonite Cupcakes)

In addition to providing swag for badge-holders, Warner Brothers has promoted their booth with more than 50 tips in and around Comic-Con, like this one on the main Comic-Con venue page:

Play new Warner Bros. games like the Lord of the Rings: Aragon’s Quest; F.E.A.R. 3 and Mortal Kombat at the WB Booth.

LOOPZ is also taking advantage of foursquare to promote their booth. In addition to adding a “major” special to their booth’s venue page, they’ve added tips offering a free gift for every checkin and a free shirt for people who check in on three separate days.

I found this mayor special just now… if you check in to “Britt Reid’s Garage” and become mayor, you get to cut the line to ride “Black Beauty” from Green Hornet. Sounds awesome!

I live in Atlanta. I have no money to get to Comic-con. I would kill someone’s mother (jk) to get this badge.

I’m hoping past hope that Dragoncon gets a badge :(

I’ve submitted Dragoncon 2010 badges to foursquare. No reply yet.

I used to live in Ireland! I’m going to Spain in a few weeks and I was hoping 4sq would have more to offer over there. alas…

Wow, that badge is bringing out the stupid in people. Look at the venue page — Morons and cheaters keep leaving “Stay away from the Kryptonite Cupcakes!” as a tip because they think it will give them that badge!

The swag was a flashlight from Superman Returns, the movie that was released in 2006. Mine was dusty. But the beam of light is in the shape of the Superman logo, which is fun.
