While most users turn off foursquare’s ability to automatically tweet every checkin, many have left the option to tweet badge unlocks checked. Usually the tweets are pretty humdrum, though. “I just unlocked the [insert badge name here] badge on @foursquare!” just isn’t too exciting, especially when you have to do some pretty cool things to unlock the badges.
With the Halloween badges, we started to see the first signs that foursquare was looking to spice those tweets up a little. The Spooky Swarm tweets, for example, started with “It’s a monster mash!”
They’ve taken that fun to the next level now by adding a bit of custom text to most of the core badge tweets. Here are a few examples:
— Alexandra Larisa (@AlexandraLarisa) November 14, 2011
— Kurtis Howland (@kurtishowland) November 14, 2011
— El Aleps (@Alekps) November 14, 2011
— n 1 c k (@nicksplitter) November 14, 2011
The tweets also vary based on the expertise level you unlock, like this:
— AF (@afarrouh) November 14, 2011
— rob walbrun (@walbrun) November 14, 2011
— Mark Freeman (@mrpc12) November 14, 2011
— Drew Kaplan (@DrewKaplan) November 14, 2011
The new tweets certainly add a little more interest to tweets that typically annoyed most Twitter users who weren’t on foursquare. Hopefully — but doubtfully — it will be enough to keep from annoying them even further, especially now that the new expertise badges mean they’ll be appearing much more often.
