Foursquare shows off new partner badges
As part of today’s “Trophy Case” rollout, foursquare showed off a series of new badges and new partners, including returning veterans and a few new surprises.
- The American Red Cross is sponsoring a badge for blood donors. Each donation center has instructions for unlocking the badge.
- Ellen Degeneres joined foursquare in early September and now she’ll be offering her own set of badges. They include ExcELLENt Fan, Riff Raffer and Sounds So Good. We don’t know yet what it will take to unlock these badges, but you’ll need to be following Ellen for any of them.
- The RadioShack Holiday Hero badge makes it’s first official appearance. It should be available later today; see our previous post for more information.
- People Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive badge is shown in its new shield form; up until today it was round like all the others.
- The new MoMA Art Addict badge joins badges from the Brooklyn Museum and the Met for checking in to their specific art museums. It’s unclear what it’ll take to unlock the new badge, but following MoMA would be a good start.

UPDATE (4:45 pm): It didn’t take long for someone to unlock the first of the new badges. Ellen’s Riff Raffer badge was unlocked by someone checking in at the Ellen Degeneres Show venue. It’s named after the Riff Raff room, an area behind the main audience in Ellen’s studio where the overflow crowd sits during the show. The unlock text reads:

you need to follow Elen Show and check in in 3 diferents KARAOKEs.
not true. I believe they can be music venues, as I have the Sounds so Good badge, but have yet to unlock my kareoke badge… sad
about Radio Shack badge – no. i even went through the required check ins TWICE!

Unlock New Badges….
waiting for radioshack holiday hero badge
It is definitely active now – and your past checkins at the other required venues (gym, coffee shops, etc) WILL count toward the badge. So many people probably just need to check in at their local RadioShack and they’ll get the badge.
I’m going to stop by after work and get it.
It’s not active.
It definitely is active. I unlocked it just on a “test” using the Mobile site.
I then deleted the check-in – but the badge unlocked.
Apparently Indonesians really love Ellen, they were unlocking like crazy overnight.
Still can’t get RadioShack badge to work
I unlocked the excELLENt Fan Badge today while dropping off a friend at Six Flags Fiesta Texas. I only started following Ellen this past Monday so I feel that prior check ins can play into effect. However, I don’t know.

Unlocked Ellen Sounds So Good badge checking into a music venue and unlocked excELLENT badge checking into a bakery.
I haven’t figured out the excELLENt badge, i checked into a movie theater on an army base… but the sounds so good is a music venue or multiples…. I got it at a bar known for having a dj…
As for the RadioShack, you have to be checking into a LEGIT shack… as in the one with the special. There are a TON of duplicates, but I found out that you just need to check into the one offering a check in special (normally 10%) and tada! shack badge!

I unlocked the ExcELLENt Fan badge when I checked in at the Pier in Venice on Washington Ave.
