Foursquare rolls out the “Trophy Case,” a better way to find and display your badges

Foursquare today rolled out a beautiful new way to display your badges that makes them easier to see, understand where they came from and find new ones to unlock. They also showed off several new badges and announced a new badge partner program where organizations can sign up to create their own badges.
The new trophy case gets its own “badges” tab at the top of the page. It shows the badges you’ve unlocked, the ones you haven’t (with a hint on how to earn some of them), and which ones are no longer available. They’ve been broken into “foursquare badges” and “partner badges.” The foursquare ones are the ones that have been created by the foursquare team, while partner badges are the ones sponsored by other organizations. You can view all the partner badges or just the ones from a particular brand. Partner badges now have a distinct shield shape to differentiate them from the foursquare ones.
When you click a badge you’ve earned, you’ll see more details on the badge, the sponsoring organization, their other badges and any of your friends who’ve also unlocked the badge. The trophy case will be making its way to the iPhone app in v2.2.
As part of the launch, foursquare encourage other organizations to take part in its partner program by applying online. Judging by the number of requests foursquare has gotten in the past for badges, this form will likely be besieged by companies, non-profits and agencies interested in sponsoring their own badges.
The new trophy case is a nice addition to the foursquare site. It makes it much easier to know which badges you haven’t unlocked and find out more about the ones you have. It will be interesting to see if foursquare is able to keep up with the requests it receives from the new badge application form.
What do you think of the trophy case? Do you have a company or client you’ll be applying for the badge program?
