Foursquare phishing email making the rounds

This is just a heads up that an email purporting to be from foursquare is making the rounds. It appears to be a phishing email designed to look like a foursquare friend confirmation email. The “view profile” link looks like a foursquare link, but actually takes you to a page likely filled with malware.

These emails are not coming from foursquare (even though they appear to be sent from a noreply@foursquare.com email address). In a note on their support site, foursquare cautions:

Just to be safe, we recommend that you do not click any of the links in the email. If you do have an account, don’t worry! They don’t have access to any of our (or your) information. If you don’t have an account, there’s also no need to worry: you have not been signed up for foursquare.

As always, you should check the true destination of links in any email before clicking them to be sure you’re being sent to an authentic site.
