Foursquare now registering 10+ checkins per second

Foursquare is experiencing exponential growth as it’s become the latest media darling. They report they’re now registering 10+ checkins per second.

That means they’re seeing more than 800,000 checkins per day. It was just last Friday that Dennis Crowley said they hit 700,000 checkins, and before that it was 600,000 on May 17. At this rate Foursquare will likely be announcing 1,000,000 checkins per day late next week or early the following week.

Coping with this phenomenal growth has been a struggle, with the service seeing a number of hiccups over the last few weeks that have led to users being unable to check in.
