Foursquare makes a few minor changes to the website that make a big difference in usability
Foursquare has pushed some minor tweaks to their website today that make a big difference in usability, especially for superusers. They include:
- Superusers, mayors and venue owners can now see the location of recent checkins at each venue to help properly position the pin. This is similar to the tools previously provided in the mislocated venues tool, but can now be used on any venue page.
- Tips now include an option to add a link right from the venue page. This feature was buried in the latest changes to venue pages and required a workaround. It’s now in the easy-to-use AJAX tip box on every venue page.
An explanation bubble has been added to the “Current Location” link to make it clear that your current location is not being shared. It’s a helpful addition, but while they’re at it, it should also read “Click the link to change,” since it’s a less-than-obvious UI element.- Editing venues now lets you enter an exact latitude and longitude to move the pin, which saves a few steps for superusers making changes based on the threads at GetSatisfaction.
Have you spotted any other changes in this latest update?

I like parts 1 and 4. I think they’re super helpful for SUs. I rarely do much with tips, so the link thing isn’t a big deal. Same with the little “note” by the location – though I’m sure that part is just to ease some privacy concerns people might have.

Wow, this is a great update. Foursquare has done an excellent job of empowering their ‘Superusers’ to make the service better for everyone. This community support strategy endears the heaviest users to the service even more.

This is nice and all, but Foursquare hasn’t promoted anyone to Superuser status since May and apparently isn’t planning on doing this anytime soon.
I know there’s no superusers in my city, and I am sure many other towns are the same way, so we can look forward to the service becoming more and more cluttered and hard to use as time wears on?
How about doing a report on the “superuser crisis?”
These are awesome improvements, but I do wish Foursquare would be a little better about communicating changes like this to its users and superusers. I’m betting venue owners and mayors who aren’t superusers are confused by the new elements they see on venue maps.
Actually, a lot of superusers have never seen the “mislocated venues” page, so I’m sure a lot of them will wonder what’s going on with the venue maps as well.
When is Foursquare going to incorporate what we are submitting through GetSatisfaction into their own website?
Totally agree… most of us have just stumbled upon this stuff at some point and shared from there… but there’s only so many of us that communicate together in some way.
I just noticed that you can access all your tips now! And there are tabs for most popular and most recent tips. Wonderful improvements!
In addition, your badges displayed on your main page are now sorted by the most recently-earned.
