Foursquare hits a big milestone: 100 million checkins

Nick was even decked out for Head Band Tuesday todaySometime late last night, foursquare crossed the 100 million checkin threshold. The milestone was announced on Twitter by foursquare’s head of business development, Tristan Walker.

Foursquare has been showing signs of enormous growth lately and it’s not slowing down. They hit 1 million users in April and 2 million just last week. They also now process about 1 million checkins per day.

These are signs that foursquare — and other location-based services — are starting to see some mainstream acceptance. Foursquare is doing their part to ensure that they can keep gaining users and remain able to compete against the likes of Google and Facebook. In fact, Walker later tweeted:

i am finishing up one of the most exciting calls ive had in my entire life. #foursquare #letschangethings

It will be exciting to see what foursquare has up their sleeve and how they continue to grow from here.
