At a half-hour before kickoff in any other year, we’d be discussing how to unlock the latest Super Bowl badge — but this, apparently, isn’t any other year. Foursquare is not offering a badge for this year’s Super Bowl as they have in years past.
In 2011, Foursquare partnered with the NFL for a badge for attending the Super Bowl and badges for each of the teams that could be unlocked with a check-in at the Super Bowl swarm event. Last year they partnered with American Express and Pizza Hut to offer a discount when users checked in at the Super Bowl Swarm venue. Those users also unlocked a special version of the swarm badge.
This year, it appears, Foursquare has skipped both of those options and isn’t offering a badge of any sort for the Super Bowl. There is no nationwide trending venue and no badge is being awarded.
What do you think of the decision?
