Foursquare for iPhone updated with new Explore search options and iPhone 5 compatibility
Foursquare just released version 5.3 of their iPhone app in the iTunes app store. The highlight of the launch is the introduction of new search options within the slightly redesigned Explore tab, but the update also brings iPhone 5 compatibility and the ability to make restaurant reservations within the app.
The search and filtering options in Explore have all been moved to the very top of the screen, where they’re easier to find (many users didn’t realize the previous “top picks” button linked to the filtering menu). It allows users to quickly switch to a different search location or add filters to their search.
Most of the new filters are holdovers from the desktop version of Explore, including places you’ve either been or haven’t been to before and the places your friends have been. A new option lets you see just the places that appear on lists you’ve saved.
On restaurant pages, you’ll find a large “make a reservation” button that takes you straight to the reservation page from OpenTable.
The update adds support for the iPhone 5′s taller screen and for iOS 6. Tapping directions, for instance, now launches Apple’s turn-by-turn directions instead of Google Maps’ mobile site. Additionally, foursquare says they’ve made numerous design tweaks and under-the-hood improvements throughout the app.
The update is available for free in the iTunes store.
