When foursquare said restaurant menus were “coming soon” to the mobile apps, I don’t think anyone expected it was only a matter of hours. The foursquare Android app was updated overnight to include the new menus feature along with a few other minor updates.
The menus appear as a link right from the venue screen, pushing photos a little farther down. They show up broken into sections just like the menus on the foursquare site.
Other changes appearing in version 2012.1.18:
- Workaround for GPS bug affecting some devices.
- Updated layout for pre-check-in screen.
- Venue map zooming for nearby vs worldwide.
The new version is available for download in the Android Market.
PS While we’re on the topic of menus, they’ve started appearing today for many large chains, like Dunkin’ Donuts, Panera Bread, Starbucks and Applebee’s.
/Thanks to Alan Kintz for the screenshots above and to everyone else who sent some in!

Am I the only one irritated by the fact that the phone says airplane mode and has an active wifi connection?

How else would you use GoGo?

Haha.. being my phone, I can explain that.
My office at work has no AT&T signal (down in the bowels of a building)… but we do have wifi. So to save my battery, airplane mode on, wifi on, connection = go.

This feature will update in foursquare for Blackberry too?
#5 by Chris Thompson on January 19, 2012 - 9:57 am
I would expect it eventually, but, as with most things Blackberry, it will likely be behind iPhone and Android.

I hope that feature will exist in the foursquare for blackberry.. =)

I like that each section header sticks to the top while scrolling. It’s a nice design touch I would fully expect.

The GPS bug is not really fixed. Last night after updating I noticed it never placed me closer than 250 feet from a venue despite being right in the parking lot. In some cases, it was over a mile away.
I also learned that I could check in and get points anyway, which is nice, but I’d rather them show an accurate distance. No amount of redoing or refreshing changed the numbers. Almost like they were set in stone or something.
It really bugs me how every time they update the Android app, something new breaks. It’s obvious they’re quick to try to work on problems but… they shouldn’t happen in the first place.

I’m not sure if they were referring to the constant problems the Android app has had with GPS, or to the Android GPS/Leap Year bug Simon mentioned in this tweet:

i’ve always wondered why you can have airplane mode and get a wi-fi signal. i guess so you can safely get a signal while on a plane. makes sense when i actually lay it out.

So is it just me, or can you not add venues from the app anymore??? They hid the add venue button it on the search screen before, but now I don’t see it anywhere in the android app.

Never mind…. I found it. At the bottom of the search results… strange place for it.

That way it makes sure people go all the way through the list before just adding yet another dupe
