The notification tray was released for the Android app and website last week. In that time, I’ve fallen in love with the notification tray in the Android app. It makes foursquare much more social by better alerting you to the things your friends are doing on the service, especially as it regards interacting with you and your tips.
I especially love the notification that friends have done your tips. It makes a nice opportunity to talk with some friends you may not have connected with recently. I also enjoy the notification that a friend want to do something that’s on your to-do list. What better way to hook up for a night out than to do something you both want to do?
In the iPhone app, the notification tray sits next to the foursquare logo at the top of the screen. There are now settings to control whether you’ll get emails or push notifications for each of the notification options. You can also mute the notifications for an hour or until the following morning.
In addition to the notification tray is a new design for the venue detail pages. Tapping the name of the venue now shows the address and phone details, along with the venue description. For the first time, you can see how popular a place is with the count of people who’ve checked in there and the total number of checkins. There are links at the bottom to call them, check their Twitter feed and get directions.
What do you think of the notification tray? Do you like the new design of venue screens?
