Foursquare announces details of their top secret SXSW concert

Foursquare tonight revealed the details of their top secret SXSW concert and it should be a big night. Foursquare fan Big Boi will be treating foursquare users to a concert at the Seaholm Power Plant starting at 8pm on Monday night.

The trick to getting into the concert is the best part, though. You’ll have to unlock the elusive Golden Ticket badge by following Big Boi and checking in around Austin. Any checkin around town could unlock the badge, which can be exchanged for two tickets to the show.

It’s foursquare first badge that is randomly unlocked, which should add some excitement to earning it (much like the namesake Golden Ticket that Charlie found in Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory).

In addition to Big Boi, there will also be performances by The Sounds and Locksley. The RVIP Lounge karaoke RV — which foursquare is sponsoring this year — will also be making an appearance during the event. Foursquare co-founders Dennis Crowley and Naveen Selvadurai are expected to represent the East Coast Startups team at the grand finale.

Hopefully foursquare will be awarding many more Golden Ticket badges that they have tickets or they’ll require checkins to be GPS verified. Otherwise I can think of roughly 7,000 people who’ll be checking in “around Austin” and taking most of the badges but won’t be able to attend the concert.

    Hopefully Foursquare will implement some sort of plan to prevent “jumpers” from stealing this opportunity from those of us who will legitimately be in Austin.

    Sigh, see now I am jealous….its going to be hard to get from Sydney, Australia.

    As long as there are an infinite amount of “Lucky Ticket” badges, there’s no problem. The amount of physical tickets is what I’m worried about.

    My guess is the badge will unlock fairly easy because even if you unlock it that doesn’t mean you are able to attend in Austin or not. Also the artist isn’t one that appeals to various musical tastes so they have to allow the badge to unlock enough to ensure the venue is filled even if it means turning a few folks away @ the redemption table.

    Rudy, stop your crying! Just because you’re actually in Austin you want to cry about this badge, I’m sure you checked into locations that you weren’t physically in just to obtain a badge. My moto is, if you can’t beat them join… but please don’t cry like a biat*h

      You know, I wouldn’t cower behind the veil of your computer if I were you. I am actually from San Antonio and I will be at SXSW for several musical events that I am playing at for my band.

      Try not justify your own practices because you can’t accomplish them yourself. I have not checked into places outside of my own geographic location and have adhered to all of the rules Foursquare has set in place. I have toured the U.S. three times with my band, so I am lucky I have had this app at my side; just another perk at my disposal when I am traveling.

      So, before you lambaste me with your frivolous insults, maybe you should take a good two seconds to look at yourself in the mirror and realize that you have not had the opportunities that I have had. Sure, you might have more badges that were earned outside of your jurisdiction, but at least I earned mine fair and square.

      Also, before you wish to attack me from your safety zone, why not practice your grammar and adhere to the rules of syntax.

    @scott I don’t know. OutKast is arguably the greatest hip-hop act of all time. i haven’t come across anyone that doesn’t like Big Boi and Dre 3000. even fans where hip hop isn’t their first genre of choice. Don’t sell Big Boi short. secondly, 4SQ really needs to give Big Boi his own badge. this is atleast the 2nd event they have teamed up with him.

    Thats fair to say, just because it isn’t my style doesn’t mean there won’t be a ton of people who’d love to see him. I guess we’ll know more come Friday :)

    I love this & can honestly say this will be the one badge will clamor for this coming weekend, I really can’t wait. I know there will be several badges but this one will really be interesting and I love Outkast. I wish Andre 3000 would be there.
