Foursquare and Turkcell launch a badge and Turkish translation

Turkcell, the largest mobile phone carrier in Turkey, launched a new foursquare partner badge today, Turkcell 4 Çeker. It happens to coincide with another surprise for Turkey: the foursquare app and website are now available in Turkish.

To earn the badge, users must follow Turkcell on foursquare and check in at four locations they’ve recommended. The unlock text reads:

Tebrikler! Gördük ki sen de Turkcell 3G kadar hızlıymışsın! Bol bol gezdiğin, gezdiğin yerleri de hemen paylaştığın için bu rozeti hakkını vererek kazandın. Hayatı paylaşmaya devam et!

Turkcell is also offering a 30% discount on accessories when foursquare users check in at select stores.

A team of Turkish superusers worked to translate text in the app and website for foursquare. Users can switch languages on the website by clicking the current language name in the footer, then choosing their desired language from the pop-up box. In the mobile apps, the language is determined by the phone’s primary language.

    First, Turkcell did claim to have done the translation themselves and later after the protests they didn’t fully correct their claims. They only stated that those SU’s did put their efforts TOO for the translation.
