We’ve seen all sorts of things triggered by Foursquare check-ins — from locks to dog food dispensers — but this could be the coolest (literally) one of all. EE, the UK’s new mobile network, is offering to make it snow right where you’re standing when you check in on Foursquare.
With the help of Poke, they’ve set up snow cannons atop buildings on Rivington St. and Hoxton Square in London. Checking in to the appropriate Foursquare venue triggers the snow to start falling immediately.
To publicize the event, they’ve installed signage at street level to encourage people to check in (or call a Twilio phone number) to trigger the snow.
It’s certainly a fun use of the Foursquare API to help people get in to the Christmas spirit!
