Check in at Olive Garden for a chance to win dinner and a movie

Olive Garden, everyone’s favorite national Italian restaurant chain that starts with “O” and ends with “live Garden,” has launched a sweepstakes for foursquare users. Twenty winners will pick up dinner and movie for two.

To enter, just check in at any Olive Garden Monday-Thursday, include the hashtag #2for25 and push your check-in to Twitter. If you forget the hashtag, they’ve added a special to their venues on foursquare that explains the whole thing. The contest runs through August 1. Read the official rules for all the details.

Winners will get a $25 Olive Garden gift card — which may sound cheap by Olive Garden standards, but it’s just enough to purchase one of their new two for $25 meal deals. They’ll also get a Fandango voucher good for two movie tickets.

Despite the convoluted entry method, this is a pretty fun way to promote some new, less expensive dining options.

    Not a bad setup for a contest, but I have to wonder how these chains come up with the number of prizes to give out. Certainly if a grand prize is, say, $10,000 the entire contest may only have three or four winners. But a $25 gift card and voucher for two movie tickets? Seems like that would scale up to more than just 20 winners out of all the 4sq users who have an Olive Garden nearby.

    No matter, it’s a neat concept but not enough to get me into one of their restaurants.
