Check in at Old Navy for a song

Today Old Navy joins corporate cousin Gap in offering a foursquare special, but this one’s a little different than most. The special offers a free download of Andy Grammer’s new song, “Fine By Me.”

It’s an new take on foursquare specials, offering something tangible for checking in that’s not a discount. This is similar to the special offered by The National at select record stores on Black Friday, but on a much larger scale. It will be interesting to see if this takes off as a way to reward customers for checking in.

Search for Old Navy on foursquare to find a store offering the special in your area. You’ll find a web address in the special text that allows you to download the song (after entering your email address).

    Cool and great new concept for using foursquare as a promotional tool. Unfortunately, I have no idea who Andy Grammar is. Just by looking at his promotional photo I have no interest – though I may be wrong.

    I’ll give them credit for doing something totally creative here… but I’ll also all but guarantee I will have zero interest in any artist they’re going to be promoting.

    Cool idea though… and thankfully I’m not their target audience. Other people I’m sure, will love this.

    The funny thing is it doesn’t look like you actually have to check-in to get it, or is that just me? The special provides you the website to go to, so you can just view the special and then go download the song. Since it doesn’t require someone in person verifying your phone check-in, you don’t really have to prove you did it. Anyone can go download this song, Foursquare user or not, if they have the link.

    Umm, Loopt has been doing this for several months. Check-in at any bar and get free music downloads. And you get to choose which music.

    So, not “totally creative” by 4SQ as one of the comments says above.
