Boxcar push notification app adds foursquare support
Many people swear that Boxcar is the best way to receive iPhone push notifications from lots of different services, ranging from Twitter to RSS feeds. Yesterday they released a new version that adds foursquare to the list of supported services. When you add your foursquare account to Boxcar, you’ll receive push notifications whenever one of your friends checks in.
The native foursquare app offers “pings,” but only for users you’ve enabled them for who check in within approximately 25 miles of your current location. Using Boxcar, you get notifications from all of your friends. Beware, though, that if you have more than a handful of friends who check in regularly, your phone could quickly sound like you’ve hit the jackpot at a Las Vegas casino.
In addition to foursquare, Boxcar added support for Gowalla and Reddit in the latest update. They join Growl, Google Voice, Google Buzz, RSS feeds, Facebook and a host of different Twitter functions on the list of supported services.
Boxcar is available for free in the iPhone app store. Let us know what you think in the comments.
