Best Buy offers $20 off a $200 purchase through American Express

Speaking of Best Buy… American Express cardholders can now unlock a $20 statement credit when they check in on foursquare and spend $200 at Best Buy stores nationwide. It’s a perfect deal as we gear up for back to school season.

The deal is the latest in a series of credits offered by American Express since last March. To take advantage of the deals, users must sync their American Express cards with foursquare and tap the “load to card” button on the special screen when they check in. A statement credit will appear within 3-5 business days.

By partnering with American Express, Best Buy avoids the requirement of training tens of thousands of cashiers how to redeem a foursquare special. The American Express deals happen solely between foursquare and American Express, so there’s no need for users to show their phones to anyone in a Best Buy store.

The deal runs through September 16. You can find your nearest store by visiting their foursquare page.

    Maybe I’m missing something, but there still seems to be no way to find out which stores are actually offering these deals inside Foursquare or from Amex for that matter! I’ve already synced and “authorized” the service, do I need to now “connect the app” to get listings or are these just not available?

    I accidentally stumbled across a deal at one of my most frequent check-in spots, but there was no message or even a “specials” icon to indicate I could save money. The Amex deals definitely don’t show up in the Explore section of the website, and I can’t find any list of participating store via Amex either.

    What good is a deal to promote your store if no-one knows about it? How can one of the killer utilities offered by Foursquare stay so hidden?

    Poking through the app and the website now, the Best Buy deal is featured at some but not all locations: http://4sq.com/Oy4xm7 but there’s zero mention of any Amex local deal at the store I got my last deal from or at 2 different places I know had deals during the last small shop round.

      The Amex Shop Small deals disappear once you’ve redeemed one (they’re limited to one deal across all stores per promotion period) so they don’t annoy you. That’s probably why you don’t see them.

      Foursquare has also removed any sort of special icon from the list of venues when you’re checking in (boneheaded move, IMO), so you can only find them in Explore or by visiting individual venue pages.

      I have no idea why they’re not offering the deal at a few stores.
