AnyClip tags famous film locations with actual movie scenes shot there — and kicks it off with a scavenger hunt
To help market their product during Internet Week in New York, movie search service AnyClip has kicked off an interesting foursquare-based scavenger hunt around New York City. The locations are all tied to spots made famous in film history. The most interesting part, though, isn’t the contest, it’s the tips they’ve left at famous places you’ve seen in films.
The tips each point to a short video from AnyClip’s vast library of film clips. Near Doc Brown’s house from Back to the Future? At the firehouse from Backdraft? Click the link in AnyClip’s tip to see a scene that was shot there. It provides a fascinating look at the places you’re visiting and their place in cinematic history.
The clips work well on any platform, even iOS where Flash is verboten, so you can actually look at these on your phone while you’re still in the place they’ve referenced.
“This campaign represents a shift in the way movie studios and advertisers can think about location-based services and is the first of its kind to integrate both Hollywood classics and Blockbusters alike to drive consumer interest in a fun, unique way,” says AnyClip Ltd. Chief Executive Officer, Oren Nauman. “Metadata is a powerful tool, and Foursquare’s open API allows us to relive movie moments, literally in the locations they were created. The consumer is then able to make an emotional connection to that physical location, and brands can use that to promote and sell their products.”
AnyClip offers a searchable library of film clips, all tagged and categorized with a wide variety of data to make it easy to find exactly the clip you’re looking for. They’ve partnered with movie studios to license the clips and share the proceeds as a way for studios to monetize their archives.
To participate in the scavenger hunt, you’ll need to follow AnyClip on foursquare and find five of their ClipTrail clips. Once you do, you’ll be entered in a drawing for six free months of movies at the Angelika.
What do you think of the scavenger hunt? What movie locations should AnyClip add tips to on foursquare?

The Playground Scene from “The Warriors” I think it’s around Riverside Park.
“The clips work well on any platform, even iOS where Flash is verboten”
I’m not sure what this is supposed to mean. Mobile video was around long before Flash, and will be here long after Flash is gone (about next Thursday, at this rate). One has virtually nothing to do with the other.
Their website uses Flash video, but they use H.264 for the mobile site. I’ve seen at least three other companies attempt to link to video from foursquare tips, but they all link to Flash video. Doesn’t do much good when you’re using it from an iOS device. Yeah, I could’ve been more clear there
Hey! This post could not be written any better! Reading through this post reminds me of my previous room mate! He always kept talking about this. I will forward this page to him. Pretty sure he will have a good read. Thanks for sharing!
I may suggest to use plugins which add great meta tag outline to your obtain computer code. Automated trading programs like googlebot don’t need any tags for automated trading programs to spider your internet site properly.
