American Eagle Outifitters offers a 15% discount just for checking in

American Eagle Outfitters is offering foursquare users a 15% discountAdd another store to the list of brands offering foursquare users a discount just for checking in. American Eagle Outfitters is offering a 15% discount to foursquare users who check in at any of their 950+ stores nationwide. The offer is good through July 31.

American Eagle joins upscale women’s retailer Ann Taylor, who earlier today announced a limited test of foursquare specials at eight of their New York area stores. There, mayors receive a 25% discount, while other users receive a 15% discount for their 5th checkin.

The Ann Taylor offers show a coupon code for cashiers to use, but the American Eagle ones do not. Hopefully they’ve taken steps to educate their employees to avoid a repeat of the complaints we saw during the Starbucks mayor special.

Are you looking forward to unlocking either of these specials?

Am I seeing things, or did someone create duplicate venues and attach the special to those instead of using the ones which already existed? I’m all for new specials, but not for creating duplicate venues when the existing ones are sufficient.

I’m not seeing that in my area, but it wouldn’t surprise me. They’ve done that before by importing other big companies in advance of their specials. They try to match them, but if the address is just slightly off or formatted differently, they create a new one.

I got the little orange icon in my list if venues and when I checked in, it unlocked the badge. But, when I showed it to a store employee, they had no idea how to handle it since there was Jo code for them to use. If this kind of thing is going to work, stores need to be notified or the code needs to be displayed in the badge. Otherwise, it’s bordering on false advertising.

You’re exactly right. I’ve had my own problems with redeeming specials, too. I think foursquare is aware that it’s a problem. With the recent Chili’s deal, they were smart enough to include a code for server’s to use. I think that’s going to be a necessity moving forward.

I checked in to two different AE stores, unlocked the special, and was told by one AE associate I would get a code emailed to me; the other associate told me she didn’t know how it worked.

When I tried to contact AE through AE.com, their online contact form didn’t work.

    Lame.
