About Foursquare Podcast: Episode 9
Good morning! Today we have a special episode of the About Foursquare Podcast for you. In addition to the usual banter about news and badges between Ching Yu and Lisa Byrne, we have a special interview with Eric Leist and the creators of Untappd, Greg Avola and Tim Mather. Untappd is a social check-in application for beer drinkers that gets its location information from foursquare and allows users to post their checkins back to foursquare.

While I download the episode, I have noticed that there have been changes in the weekly Leaderboard competition.
Until two weeks ago, there was the check-in competition: The Leaderborad. In Paris, France (where I am based, I do not know about what happens exactly in other cities in the world), all Foursquare users competed scoring points during the week. At the end of the week (Sunday night, 0:01 AM Monday) the weekly score was reset and a new weekly competition started.
Two weeks ago, the score did not reset on Monday, so points kept on being accumlated until (more or less) Wednesday, when there was an unclear reset.
This week the same thing is happening. It is Monday night and I am still accumulating points to those scored during the previous week. However, the same message is featured at the bottom of the Top 100 scores: “Leaderboard resets every Sunday night, 11:59 pm”
To your knowledge, has there been any thange in the Leaderboard game? Thank you for any inforñation you can provide.

Honestly, I don’t know much about the leaderboard and points. They’re so easily gamed and hard to access that I pay ZERO attention to them. If they disappeared from the app altogether, it would likely be weeks before I noticed.

I’ve only been using Untappd for a few weeks, but I’m totally loving it. I’m a bit of reformed beer snob and just like 4sq pushes me to try new local businesses, Untappd encourages me to try new beers whether out, home, or at a friend’s place.
I do like the mobile web format, because it allows friends who don’t have a iPhone to play along.
