A foursquare badge for do-it-yourselfers
Just last night, my wife and I were discussing finishing our basement. Just thinking about the number of trips I’d be making to the hardware store made me dizzy. The more I thought about it, the more I decided foursquare should have a badge for do-it-yourselfers. Well, apparently foursquare now knows where I am and what I’m thinking because tonight they released the Fixer Upper badge.
I presume you’ll need to check in several times at your local hardware store to unlock the badge, but it’s not clear how many trips it will take. The unlock text reads:
Whether you’re here for 1/4″ electro-galvinized roofing nails or that hammer-machine-saw-thingy, here’s to getting stuff done!

Im in the newerending process of renovation. Bought my appartment some months ago and during the process became mayor of some stores selling lots of theese kind of stuff..

The round ones are official foursquare badges. The “shield” ones are partner badges, typically associated with some other brand or company. Just an FYI.
Chris Thompson does it again. Before any where else… remember you read it here first. Before it was unlocked. Practically before it existed! The guy thinks of badges, they get released, and he tell us. Man.. I love this place.

Oh yeah ! I almost completed the entire makeover of my bathroom, it’s been 3 months. I became mayor of about 4 or 5 hardware stores in town. Can’t wait to get that specific badge. I think I deserve it !

I assume it would work. Surprised that Home Depot or Lowe’s didn’t sponsor this badge on foursquare.

Hmm, my check-in to Lowe’s tonight did not unlock this badge. And I’m the mayor there and at a mom-and-pop hardware store, so I’d have thought I have enough check-ins.

I hope this badge is NOT unlockable at IKEA. That does not seem right. Should be at places more like Lowe’s, Home Depot, Ace Hardware, and auto parts stores.

Come to think of it, you are right. I forgot that people buy couches and cutlery at IKEA. I was just thinking about those wooden IKEA cabinets and bed frames you have to put together by yourself.
Be a cool sponsored badge with the HOME DEPOT or LOWE’S or one of the home improvement shows…IKEA badge would be siiiiiick!

I think I’ll be spending the rest of the day cleaning up all the Home Depot and Lowe’s venues in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex. lol I’m currently having my first house built, so this is gonna be an easy badge to earn over the next couple months.
Hm. Good idea. I should probably clean up all the Ace Hardwares in my city too. I only ever visit three of them and know of five of them. Should start with some Googling.
I found this badge posted to my 4sq page yesterday (Jan 20′th) with a third visit to a local lumber company. I also have around three or fours stops at a Menards store and one stop at an Ace Hardware, so the total needed to get this is something around or under a total of seven visits.
I often add a ‘shout’ to each visit, even if I don’t publish to friends of FB.
I don’t think it counts retroactive visits and other users have reported that it only takes 3 checkins.
If it is three then it is broken for me. I have three checkins at Home Depot and 1 at Ace. All are the correct category. Still nothing.
A Band-Aid added would be appropriate….
I feel like three checkins is way too easy….and I’ve checked in twice at Lowes and once at Home Depot and nothing…anyone know exactly how many checkins??

Same here. I’ve gotten lots of Hardware store checkins since it came out, yet I don’t have it yet.
Spoke to someone who got it today and they said it was way more than 3 because they checked-in to 4 spots just today.
I got mine by checking in 4 times in 4 different days (once a day) in 1 hardware store. I hope this help.
Yeah I think this one is broken
Even just counting since this badge was announced I have 4 checkins at Home Depot and One at Lowes, both are categorized properly.
Now I have six visit to two different places and still nothing. Does this have to be in the same week maybe?
