A few notes on the Super Bowl badges

Foursquare’s servers have been up and down all night due to the influx of checkins from people attempting to earn their Super Bowl badges. If you’re getting server errors, wait a few minutes and try again.

Here are a few tips for unlocking your badge:

  • You must shout either “Go Steelers” or “Go Packers” while checking in to the trending “Super Bowl Sunday” venue (shown at right). If the trending venue doesn’t show up in your places tab, you can access it here from an iPhone (not confirmed on Android or other platforms).
  • You can only earn one badge — either Packers or Steelers — so choose wisely. Trying to be clever and shouting both means you won’t get either badge. Checking in a second time won’t unlock the second badge.
  • The Super Bowl badge — the one without a team — is only for people checking in to the game itself.
  • It’s likely you’ll see a message saying your phone is too far away for points or badges. The badge should still unlock regardless of that message (I got the message and the badge).

    I have not received any badge for checking in when because I’m too far away (it says). I have no such badge in my collection (via website or app).

      I have not received any badge either. It stated that I was too far away and would receive no badges or points and I have not received anything. Worldwide is not working. I’m disappointed.

    Thanks for the tips. I was having a terrible time finding “Super Bowl Sunday” in places. I finally went to the website, searched on it there, (with Dallas as a location) and added it to my to-do list. I then checked in on my iPhone using the to-do list. That seemed to work.

    I checked in at Cowboys stadium in person at the game it said I unlocked the badge lucky ticket yada yada but the badge is not on my profile!
