If you’re coming out with a movie aimed squarely at foursquare’s prime demographic, a foursquare badge is a perfect promotional vehicle. That’s why Sony Pictures has stepped up to offer a badge for their new film, 30 Minutes or Less.
The movie is about a dimwitted criminal who kidnaps a pizza delivery guy. He’s forced to rob a bank with a bomb strapped to his chest in order to pay an assassin he’s hired to kill the criminal’s father for the insurance money (get all that?).
Foursquare users can earn the badge by following the 30 Minutes or Less brand page and checking in at either a pizza parlor or a bank (bomb not required). When you unlock the badge, you’ll be entered to win the $3,000 grand prize.
30 Minutes or Less opens August 12. It stars Jesse Eisenberg, Danny McBride, Aziz Ansari and Nick Swardson.
It’s nice to see they’ve tied the badge to relevant categories instead of just leaving tips in big cities. It should be a fun and easy badge to earn, while drumming up a little publicity for the film.
What do you think of the badge?

Interesting way to promote your movie and get a badge. I could see this happening way to much and badges will just be all over the place.

If people didn’t notice that’s Jesse Eisenberg from “The Social Network” movie from last year.

I just wanted a badge of Harry Potter. The story can not end well … I want to tag.

At least it is a badge that I can actually get where I am… As Spike mentioned above though, this could actually get out of control fairly easily… This isn’t Glue or Miso, after all.

since the sweepstakes is open to US residents only , does the badge follow the same rules? or is it open for everyone and you just don’t get entered in the sweepstakes?

It appears the badge is available in the US only.

just checked in to a pizza place and nothing. Yes, i followed the brand, and i am in new york.

Is the venue correctly categorized? It looks like the badge will only unlock if “pizza place” or “bank” is the main category, so if it’s listed as a secondary category it will not work.

Just checked in to a bank and nothing. Yes, I follow the brand and I’m in Europe (Czech republic).

I remember when Toys R Us had it’s badge back on Black Friday. I made it a point to stop in to get the badge. Afterwards, I remember how blatantly promotional the badge looked. Yea, I kept it, but I try to avoid these now. Foursquare is slowly starting to test this gray area w/ these badges can easily fall down that slippery slope where we get badges for shows like the GTL badge which I abhor. However, I did get the RuPaul badge & various Bravo badges… I guess it’s moreof a terribly promo looking badge that I don’t like. This badge looks like a badge template w/ words on it. All they left out was the “Coming soon!” … /rant

I unlocked the badge at a local bank earlier this morning so I can confirm it is working.

Don’t like, these kind of badges don’t interest me.
A good partner badge would be like the Barista Badge. Checkin 16 times at BK or at 10 differents Best Buy and get a badge.

I believe this is loosely based on the collar bomb robber in Erie PA – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_Wells_(bank_robber)

I’m surprised that one hasn’t been made into a movie itself. Crazy, crazy story.

People actually use “pizza parlor” in everyday speech?!
#21 by Chris Thompson on July 13, 2011 - 10:47 pm
No, but pizza place sounded funny to me.

I agree with Spike at the top of the page that I hope they don’t make a habit of this. I could see doing badges for high-anticipation movies like Harry Potter, but I really don’t want every forgettable slapstick comedy out there to have its own badge.

A shame that this one is, again!, not available in Europe…….
#24 by Marcos on July 14, 2011 - 1:59 pm
why only in USA? at least the badge should be available worldwide…
#25 by Carlitos on July 14, 2011 - 3:54 pm
Not available on Mexico, again… Hopefully I am heading to the USA in a week! So let’s the badge hunting begin!
#26 by AeroGem on July 14, 2011 - 4:13 pm
I just got it. Checked in at a bank. Unfortunately, Canadians are not eligible for the contest…Yet again.
#27 by Squirrel on July 14, 2011 - 5:13 pm
Yeah, these kind of one check-in badges are pretty lame. I get it when it’s tied to a specific event (like the SXSW ones), but I hope we don’t see many more like this.
